To help ChatGPT or Perplexity cite your podcast, give every important answer a stable page: named speaker, visible context, and exact-second link. There are two routes: the public web and an AI connector. A citation is not a reward for uploading more audio; it is a choice made after several earlier systems have done their jobs.
First, a source has to be available. Then it has to be understood well enough to match a question. Then it has to be retrieved. Finally, the answer engine decides whether it belongs in the response. Your title and show notes can help add the first layer, but a useful claim may sit 40 minutes into a conversation spoken by one guest, with no matching word in the episode title.
A video-only or audio-only surface does not always expose that claim as a stable, attributable unit; the practical job is to turn the conversation into evidence without losing the original recording. Here is the distinction that prevents most confusion: the broader road is public.

You publish an episode page that search engines and answer engines may crawl and index. It needs useful, visible text, clean internal links, and a stable URL. This creates eligibility, not a promise of a ranking or citation. The connected road is deliberate: a user adds PodHood as an MCP connector in Claude, ChatGPT, or another compatible client.
The client can then query that channel directly and return source-linked moments. That does not mean every AI conversation automatically searches your podcast; it means the connection creates a live retrieval path when the user chooses it. Whichever road is used, the source needs the same core ingredients: (1) a permanent episode URL, (2) the complete transcript in visible, readable context, (3) speaker attribution so the claim belongs to theright person, (4) chapters and key moments that describe what the conversation actually covers, (5) an exact timestamp that opens the original recording at the relevant second, and (6) enough surrounding text for a person or model to judge whether the quote means what the summary says it means.

Below the player, the same conversation is organized into chapters and key moments. Notice what is not happening: PodHood is not replacing the episode with an AI summary. The original recording remains the primary evidence; the structured page is a map back to that evidence.
If somebody asks what Amada Wise said about building command code, the answer does not need to point at a generic channel homepage; it can point at this episode, this speaker, and this moment. That is the unit a useful citation needs.
Now, search the channel for Anthropic. The result is not limited to episode titles. PodHood finds transcript matches across the catalog, ranks the relevant episodes, and shows the actual phrases with their timestamps. In this example, one result opens a discussion of Anthropic at 3 minutes and 26 seconds; other matches appear at 18 minutes and 56 minutes.

This is the important shift: the searchable object is no longer just the episode; it is the exact claim inside the episode. A listener can inspect it, an editor can share it, and a connected agent can retrieve it with provenance.
For the public web road, publish one watch page per episode and make the video the main content of that page. Keep the title unique. Add a useful summary, human-readable chapters, the transcript, and a stable thumbnail. Use video object structured data, and describe key moments with "clip" or "seek to action" where appropriate.

Add the page to a site map and link to it from your channel library and relevant articles. Those steps help crawlers discover and understand the page. They do not force Google to index the video, and they do not force an answer engine to cite it.
Technical eligibility and editorial selection are different decisions. Also check your robot's rules. A public page cannot appear in ChatGPT search if the relevant search crawler is blocked from accessing it. But allowing access is still an invitation to evaluate the page, not a guaranteed inclusion.

For the connected road, the viewer chooses an AI client and adds the PodHood MCP server. It complements the public crawler road; it does not replace it. Here is the playbook: first, choose one audience question that your episode answers unusually well. Do not start with every keyword in the category. Second, publish a dedicated episode page.
Put the recording, summary, transcript, speakers, chapters, and key moments together. Third, create exact-second links for the strongest claims. Test each link in a fresh browser so it opens theright source and context. Fourth, make the page discoverable. Add it to your site map, connect it from the channel library, and link it from one genuinely relevant article or resource.
Fifth, test both roads. Use Search Console and your server logs for the public page. Then connect the channel through MCP and ask 10 real questions a listener might use. Review whether the returned moments are relevant, attributed, and easy to verify.
